#HowHolly 3 Blinging DIY Cup Lessons Learned

Hey Belle Hey-

Welcome to the halfway point of 2022 & Happy 4th of July! I know I can’t be the only one who thinks this year is going fast…after a year of spending so much time being safe at home, I am enjoying sparkling in the summer sun!

Today’s blog post is the pairs well with the sparkles of summer time and it’s all about my first attempt at cup blinging. I will admit I am always down for sparkles but for some reason I have never stepped into the world of blinging cups. So let’s talk about 3 tips in case you decide to try this craft out.

Belle Tip 1: Gather Your Supplies

I decided to embark on my bling cup journey through purchasing a class by This Is Tisa. While I have plenty of sparkles in the studio, I did not have the proper glue or cup to get started. There is also a lot to learn about bling sizes and stone colors.

Belle Tip 2: Don’t Try To Complete A Project In One Day

Depending on the look you are going for it may be possible to finish a cup in one day but I highly recommend planning a few days or a week to complete your project. This was a personal passion project for me because the design was in my favorite color. When you are starting your cup you do need to leave some time to let your first row dry in place so that the rest of your stones will line up correctly. For this project, I used Beacon’s Gemtack glue which can allow you time to move stones easily but it does call for a few minutes for the bond to stick with little to no movement.

Belle Tip 3: Give yourself grace and embrace imperfection

This lesson was the hardest for me to learn. The gemtack glue does allow for movement and you can rearrange your stones but what I realized is that I was constantly beating myself up for wanting every stone to be positioned perfectly. I had to remind myself that it was my first time and perhaps the best thing about DIY projects is that they are your own and usually you cannot make a carbon copy of a handmade item even if you tried. ]

Have you blinged before? Is it on your DIY try list….comment below!

As Always,
